A Remote Region in Africa Is Receiving God’s Word
In a difficult-to-access area in Africa, God is doing
incredible work. A strategic plan — developed by local
churches in the area, representing seven denominations
and multiple ministries — is underway. These partners
recognize the urgency for Bible translation and the power
of God’s Word.
This massive undertaking is not without challenges: Many
participants are impacted by civil unrest and famine
around them. They are also unable to communicate with
others due to limited internet connectivity and unstable
phone networks. But the commitment to translating
Scripture is great.
The goal of this strategic initiative is for people throughout
the entire region to be transformed when they encounter
Christ in their own language. Over the next few years, the
desire is to initiate Bible translations in more than
100 languages.
In May, oral Bible translation (OBT) sessions helped back
translators and facilitators maintain the accuracy of drafts.
Church leaders reviewed and listened to testimonies from
the sessions.
Your gifts to the November 2024 appeal letter have helped
continue training that was initiated last year in several
areas of translation work. Four workshops took place in
December of 2023, which helped equip 10 participants
to focus on oral script translation in their languages and
then start “JESUS” film scripts. At the same time, training
was provided for translation facilitators, listening group
facilitators and trauma healing facilitators. In total, more
than 40 people were trained.
In January 2024, participants in oral Bible storying (OBS)
training learned about church-based Bible translation,
the basics of producing a good translation and practical
sessions for drafting. The training sessions also included
modules on audio testing and community checking.
One participant commented: “Sharing the Bible stories
with my [people] has become easy and simple for them to
understand the Bible stories in their own language. When
I read the story of Pentecost in the Book of Acts, I learned
that the Holy Spirit gave the disciples those languages,
and they preached the gospel and many people believed.
That’s what I want to see happen in my region.”
Another participant shared: “The audio scripts covering 50
[Bible stories] have greatly contributed to changing [the]
lives and souls of my people who are currently scattered in
refugee camps.”
